Bathroom Renovations on a Budget - Costly Mistakes

A bathroom space may seem like a small area to take on a DYI challenge or carry out a renovation on a budget, but it is also one of the most labour intensive and costly areas to renovate.

If you are considering taking on a bathroom renovation yourself, well consider these most common mistakes the DYI or budget renovator can make:

· Cutting corners by not using professional trade persons and poor-quality products. Why spend your budget on poor workmanship and quality when it may only need to be re-done replaced again in the short term. Do it right the first time. It’s not only money, but it’s also time wasted when it comes to the DIY renovator not being prepared or not qualified/experienced to carry out certain jobs.

· Don’t buy the cheapest. When it comes to products and finishes, buy the best you can afford. You will want to see a beautiful end-product and you will want your investment to stand the test of time.

· Not planning your budget and not being realistic about your budget. We all have different budgets we can work with but spend your money on getting the job done properly the first time and choosing products that will give you the finish you are satisfied with.

· Outsourcing everything may not fit within your budget but be realistic about what trades are within your capabilities. Painting and product selection may be areas you are very capable of managing yourself, but put your money where it counts - waterproofing, plumbing, tiling and electrical should be carried out by professional trades people.

A bathroom renovation does not need to be expensive, but doing everything on the cheap can end up being costly, disappointing and lead to very stressful delays. Money well spent can deliver the bathroom you desire.
